Isotopes' Herrera claimed off waivers by Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers claimed Albuquerque Isotopes utility player Elian Herrera off waivers on Monday.
Herrera was placed on waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers as the team sought to open a spot on its 40-man roster. He will now be on the 40-man roster for Milwaukee going forward.
In two-plus seasons with the Isotopes, Herrera hit .300/.371/.420 over 197 games. He played every position except catcher and first base, even throwing one inning of relief work as a pitcher in 2010.
Herrera batted .282/.367/.370 with seven home runs, 43 RBI and 16 stolen bases for the Isotopes this season. He played primarily second base (76 games this season) while also seeing time at third base and all three outfield positions.
The writing was on the wall, however, when Herrera was not among the Dodgers' September call-ups,Youngstown State Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 Cases, indicating he was not likely to remain with the team for much longer. With Herrera gone, the Dodgers' 40-man roster now stands at 32.
