Neill Blomkamp's 'Chappie' comes to life in South Africa
Hot on the heels of Elysium, writer/director Neill Blomkamps next project is already in production in South Africa. Following the tradition of his previous films, Chappie is a sci-fi story about a robot who becomes an adopted son. Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital(MRC) made the announcement today.
Chappie marks the third straight collaboration for Blomkamp and Sharlto Copley. Copley burst onto the U.S. cinematic scene in 2009, starring in Blomkamps Oscar-nominated District 9. This summer, he played baddie Kruger,

Blomkamp will also produce Chappie, a project that reunites him with writing partner Terri Tatchell. Tatchell wrote the Oscar-nominated adapted screenplay for District 9 with Blomkamp. Peter Jackson produced the film, which garnered nominations for editing, visual effects and best picture.
MRC and Sony Pictures also partnered on Elysium, which grossed over $200 million at the global box office. MRC is an independent film studio that has partnered with Warner Bros,
