Nintendo on Wii U price: 'Wii U Basic model sales show price isn't the issue'
It's been quite the year for Nintendo's latest Wii U home console. After a unspectacular launch, the successor to the insanely popular Wii has been hit with slow sales, lake luster consumer response and poor support from developers. One of the key points often brought up regarding the lack of popularity is due to price. At $300 for a "basic" model, some feel the console's performance does not justify the price Nintendo has set.
Today, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata went on to defend the Wii U's price point:
"If the price is actually an issue,Paisley iPhone 4 Cases, then there is some contradiction between the current sales balance between the Basic and Premium versions of the Wii U," Iwata said."The basic version should have sold a lot, but the fact of the matter is that people are buying more of the premium version. Sadly though, even the most diehard Nintendo fan would have a hard time defending Iwata this time. Wii U basic sales are down simply because the Premium offers you a game, accessories and more memory for less than the price of one game; the basic is just a poor deal and consumers know it.
